Last weekend, Core Power proudly sponsored and activated at the Dempsey Challenge in Lewston Maine, joining cyclists Tommy Danielson, Ted King, Freddie Rodriguez, Kristin McGrath, Ally Stacher, Alison Tetrick and Matt Updike as they rode in this awesome charity event that actor and fitness buff Patrick Dempsey started a few years ago as a fundraiser for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

The Dempsey Center provides support, care, and education to anyone that is or has been affected by cancer, no matter where they were treated.  All proceeds of the Dempsey Challenge go towards the Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

This year’s Dempsey Challenge was able to raise over $1.1 million in fundraising money, and had a record number of registrants – 4,294! The event starts with a 5k/10k run/walk on Saturday and then wrapped up with a bike ride on Sunday – with people choosing from 10, 25, 50, 70 and 100 mile courses!

It was very exciting to be with Patrick and all of the very talented cyclists who rode at the event that weekend. In addition to having a booth at the event festival, Core Power sponsored one of the rest stops along the 70 and 100 mile rides. When Patrick came by to take a breather, he also restored his core with a Chocolate CP before getting sandwiched in for a photo shoot by a few of his adoring fans – check out the video below!

Cyclist Tom Danielson took his camera along and recorded this exclusive footage of Craig Alexander training with trainer Mat Steinmetz.

The Core Power Team spent some quality down time with team Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda cyclist Tom Danielson on Sunday night, after the seventh and final stage of the USA Pro Challenge came to an end – marking the close of a seven stage race that saw Danielson give some of the best performances of his cycling career. Amongst the bumping beats of some gone but apparently not forgotten 90s classic dance beats at the race’s after party, Danielson sat at a table and reminisced with us about the week. He was happy with the Challenge as a whole, stoked about the MASSIVE turnout of fan support along the way, and excited to be on “vacation.” When asked about why this race means so much to him, he smiled and said, “I’m a climber. I LOVE to climb.”

Danielson’s climbing expertise earned him the King of the Mountain jersey through the first five stages, while his breakaway effort in Stage 3 – a breakaway that he held on to through the finish line in Aspen – is being talked about as being the one of the greatest stage victories on American soil. People will be talking about that ride for years to come, and for that – and for a very impressive 7th place overall finish at the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge – we salute you, Tommy D!

Tommy’s USA Pro Cycling Challenge Breakdown:

• Total time: 25:59:02
• Awarded the Evolve Most Agressive Rider jersey for overall effort at the end of the week
• Won Stage 3 in a dramatic finish in Aspen
• Held the Nissan King of the Mountain jersey through Stage 5
• Took a 7th place finish overall

It was a good show as a whole for Danielson’s fellow Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda teammates, who sprung into action early when Tyler Farrar took the opening stage of the Challenge. Christian Vande Velde then picked up the pace and entered into a yellow jersey battle with BMC’s Tejay Van Garderen, which continued until stage 6, when last year’s champion Levi Leipheimer claimed back the coveted yellow garment going into the final stage. But Vande Velde’s second place finish in the 7th stage downtown Denver time trial was enough to take back the yellow and the championship.

Core Power moved along with the Challenge for all seven stages, and for the second year in a row, we really enjoyed getting to meet the cyclists, the fans and the staff that make this incredible event possible. It was a pleasure to share our great tasting, simple ingredient protein drink with the cycling world, and we look forward to doing it much more in the future!

Why is Core Power More Expensive Online Now than It Was when It Was HoneyMilk?

That’s a great question – we totally understand how much of a bummer it can be to see the price your favorite products increase. Nothing super awesome about that. But our goal is to give you more value for your buck when you compare our product to the others on the market, and will always strive to keep our prices competitive. We know that what you put into your body is important and that’s why we use real fresh lactose-free milk and natural ingredients when we make Core Power. No powders like the other guys are doing. It’s a high quality product for discerning athletes like you… And as much as we’d love to be able to continue to cover the cost of shipping like we did when we sold the product via our own website, we just can’t afford to do that anymore. Where Oh Where is Chocolate Light?

Right now, there are four flavors of Core Power available (Vanilla, Honey, Chocolate and Strawberry Banana) on Amazon.com, but Chocolate Light has been ordered by Amazon and shipped, so should appear there soon. It’s also making its way to retailers in Texas and Colorado, and later this summer to other parts of the country. We’ll announce on Twitter and Facebook as Chocolate Light becomes more and more available.

The coffee flavor has not been made as a Core Power flavor, but we are definitely paying attention to the comments and requests that are coming in. If you’d like to leave your vote to bring coffee back, you may do so here. After a grueling 8 stages that twisted and turned all over the Golden State, the final stage of the Amgen Tour of California wrapped up in downtown Los Angeles today and we are very happy to congratulate Core Power athlete Tom Danielson for taking 3rd overall in the prestigious competition…. for the second year in a row.

Amidst an energetic crowd that was made up of professional and amateur athletes, enthusiastic riders who took part in the Ride Before the Pros, and even hard core cycling fans like actor Patrick Dempsey, the cyclists finished up on Figueroa in the heat of the California Sun. Danielson took third, while Garmin teammate David Zabriskie took second and Rabobank’s Robert Gesink took the top spot.
