During the first week of November, the Fair Oaks Farms Brands jury made the selections for the winners of the Chicago Marathon Core Power Wristband Contest - and we’ve been reaching out to the lucky ten winners to let them know that they’ve one and will be receiving a YEAR’S SUPPLY OF CORE POWER as we head into 2013! We’ve heard back from nearly all of the selected winners, but are still waiting to hera from a few. NEVERTHELESS, we want to introduce you to the winners we’ve heard from so far! To recap the way the contest worked, we gave out Core Power wristbands at the Chicago Marathon Expo the two days leading up to the race. Contestants were asked to show their Core Power Spirit as they passed our headquarters at Morgan and Adams in Chicago, which is roughly the 14 mile mark. We had two cameramen who were set up there – and they recorded great shots of those wearing the wristbands. A jury of Fair Oaks Farms employees then chose the winners based on: enthusiasm, energy, fun/humor and that overall Core Power POWER! So, without further ado… here they are!

How many marathons was Chicago for you? Chicago was my 3rd full marathon
Are you running another one soon? Rock N Roll in Arizona in January and hopefully another one on the calendar for fall again
Why do you run? OR Why did you run this marathon? I run to de-stress, I brainstorm my best ideas, and find some “me” time. I love being physically active and love the high I get after a good run. I wanted to run another marathon after having a second child and getting strong again with running wanted to set a challenge to run a faster marathon.

Have you tried Core Power before, if so where? Ive tried Core Power before- first time was after a race I tried the Chocolate 26g. Loved it and surprised it tasted that good, and the protein it had. At the next expo I was at I stopped and tried the other flavors.

Which flavor(s) do you like best? I like the chocolates the best. Probably vanilla next.

How many marathons was Chicago for you?  Chicago was my 20th.  I’ve also run about 10 Ultra Marathons  I run over 20 races a year.  In 2012, I’ve run 2 marathon distances, 2 50k’s, and 1 50 miler.

Are you running another one soon?  Plan on running Ice Age 50 miler next spring.  May do another marathon next fall

Why do you run? OR Why did you run this marathon?  Enjoy the health benefits and friends.  I run for Dick Pond Fast Track, and love the team atmosphere and the people.  I also run with my 8 year old son, and we enjoy running 5k’s and 10k’s together.  I love how I can run almost at any time, but still have a team atmosphere and enjoy friends.

Have you tried Core Power before, if so where?  Yes — and I love it!  Great recovery drink.

Which flavor(s) do you like best?  I like Chocolate the most. I also like Honey.

Favorite Sports / Physical Activities:   Running and biking are my two favorite activities.  I enjoy them year round…outside! I find it ironic that I cannot run 2 miles on a treadmill, but I ran 26.2 miles outside.  Fresh air invigorates me and being surrounded by nature really motivates me to keep going,  I started running 1.5 years ago, at the urging of a professor from graduate school.  He introduced me to the group I run with now and I adore them all.  They have become my family and dearest friends.

Are you running another one soon?   My future races include the Palos park turkey trot (4 miles), the George Cheung 50k in march 2013 and the marathon in Lowell, IN, in April 2013.  I plan on running those with my same running friends from the marathon.

Why do you run? OR Why did you run this marathon?   Running, for me, has become a place of focus and clarity for me.  I always make better, more grounded, decisions after a good solid run.  I think better, my attitude is better, my outlook is more clear after a run.  I look forward to each run because I know I will feel so great during it and after.  There is no better feeling than hearing your feet hit the pavement and you just keep going.  Now, I run because I can.

Have you tried Core Power before, if so where? Which flavor(s) do you like best? The Chicago marathon expo was my first opportunity to taste core power drink…and I really loved it! Honey and chocolate were my favorites…and I loved the staff at the expo.  They were incredibly friendly, upbeat, professional, and really seemed to believe in the product themselves! My daughter, who is ten years old, also loved it!

Favorite Sports / Physical Activities:     Running. I was a triathlete before we had kids (6). I work out daily and teach Physical Education. My children are all competitive swimmers. I am a USA Swimming Official.

How many marathons was Chicago for you?   Chicago was my 16th marathon.

Are you running another one soon?     I intend to run the Chicago Marathon as long as I can. I will also run smaller local races, but the marathon will keep me “honest” and force me to train more throughout the year.

Why do you run? OR Why did you run this marathon?     I have been a competitive runner for 45 years. I love running and working out, the marathon  keeps me working out year round and I need some incentive to train at a higher rate.

Have you tried Core Power before, if so where?  Coincidentally, we had Core Power come to our school and help sponsor a Fun Run this fall. Since then I have  been a loyal customer.

Which flavor(s) do you like best? My favorite flavors are Strawberry/ Banana and Vanilla. I was excited  when I found out I could win a years supply in the marathon. It was great when I found I won.

Are you running another one soon?      I will do one marathon per year.  So next fall will be the next one.

Why do you run? OR Why did you run this marathon?      I love the personal challenge that distance running presents.  I love to be around my running buddies and share in our victories.  We chose Chicago because of its reputation for being well supported, flat, organized and fun.  It is also the closest marathon to my hometown.

Have you tried Core Power before, if so where?   I tried core power at the Chicago Marathon expo.  I will enjoy trying out all of the flavors.

Are you running another one soon?      Was in NYC recently to run their marathon but it was cancelled; have not registered for any marathons for 2013 but will likely run Chicago, NYC and one other

Why do you run? OR Why did you run this marathon?      I initially started running to lose weight; I have lost 70 lbs since I started running. I ran this marathon because I wanted to run a big city marathon (one of the majors).

Have you tried Core Power before, if so where?   Yes, I have been drinking it for about 2 years (I started drinking Athletes HoneyMilk).

Which flavor(s) do you like best?  My favorite flavor is Chocolate Light.

Craig Alexander and LA Clipper Bobby Simmons, at the Core Power Launch Party

Thanks to EVERYONE who came by our Chicago HQ on Monday evening to hang out with Craig “Crowie” Alexander and to get a taste of Core Power! A Core Power user for the past two years, Crowie has become a true member of the Core Power family and it was great to have him at home base for the day and then spend some time at a meet n greet with fans in the evening.

The evening started off with a selection of snacks and drinks, the highlight of which were perhaps the dessert plates that featured chocolate and blackberry gelatos (floating on a bed of creme anglaise, of course) – all of which were made with Core Power by our in-house culinary genius and ingredients specialist Scott Backinoff!

After people had a chance to mingle, meet & take pictures with Crowie, and snack on some awesome snacks, Crowie was interviewed by Fair Oaks Farms Brands CEO Steve Jones in front of a captivated audience of triathletes, local fitness enthusiasts and community leaders like Chef Art Smith and NBA star Bobby Simmons. Crowie talked about winning and not winning, how he got into the sport of triathlon, his road back to Kona, why Core Power is his high protein recovery drink of choice, and his new book “As the Crow Flies: My Journey to Ironman World Champion,” which you can click here to preorder on Amazon.com.

As you know, we launched as HoneyMilk in Texas and Colorado, and we’re still dedicating our energy towards growing in those two awesome states. But we’re also expanding / starting up some additional on-the-ground efforts to include Chicago, San Antonio, Dallas / Fort Worth, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston and Upstate New York, with more cities opening up in the next year! It’s thanks to your devotion to our natural, great tasting, balanced high protein recovery drink that we’re moving and shaking in 2012. WE APOLOGIZE for the delay in getting 20g Chocolate to you, but we’re working very hard on it and it should be available soon. Core Power is proud to be associated with the Better Man Than Me Foundation (BMTM), and hosted the organization’s 1 Year Anniversary at our Chicago HQ this past weekend. Better Man than Me was started by Paul Phillips a year ago in order to inspire and mentor young men in the Chicago area who are looking to make better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. Successful in the business world, Paul is an ordained minister and a community leader and decided to start BMTM “to help others avoid or at least navigate through some of the struggles he has experienced by providing resources that were not afforded to him.” According to Anders Porter of Fair Oaks Farms:

“The purpose of Better Man Than Me is to give young people the tools, inspiration and support they need to reach their goals and be successful, healthy, and happy. The purpose of Fair Oaks Farms is to, through products like Core Power, give people the great-tasting, effective nutrition they need to reach their goals and be successful, healthy, and happy. So it’s a great match and we’re delighted to be able to host this event here today.”

The Saturday Core Power HQ event at Fair Oaks Farms Chicago was an anniversary bash that included local food, music, poetry and inspirational speakers. Keynote address was given by Larry Roberts, Jr., owner and founder of Larry’s Barber College.
