It’s June 22nd and the birthday of our man Craig Alexander! Big birthday wishes going out to Crowie from the whole team at Athletes HoneyMilk. We are so excited and honored to have you as part of the team. Check out the latest Craig Alexander interview from the guys over at Xtri.com below.

We recently had the chance to briefly catch up with one of the all around great guys of triathlon, Craig Alexander. He sheds some light on his health, state of triathlon, and one of his favorite beverages…

After having to withdraw from IM Aus, you now have to rework your schedule. Any ideas as to what race or two you are going to add?

I am hoping to validate for Las Vegas and Kona asap. However on the back of the virus and now this rib injury I am just trying to get healthy again. I tried to test the waters in Alcatraz, but the ribs are not right, so I had to withdraw from Eagleman this past weekend which was disappointing. My race schedule will be decided on when the injuries are back on track.

What’s your take on the new WTC point system? Do you feel this is helping or hurting the professional field?

My take is that I don’t make the rules, I just have to follow them. I am trying to focus my energy only on the things I can control. I guess time will tell.

We really enjoy you blog posts, as it lets us know you on a more personal level away from the races and training. You recently packed up shop for Boulder, taking the family with you. How special is it to have your family with you throughout the season?

Traveling with the family is really special. Even though I love the sport and it has given us so much, nothing is more important than family. I am just grateful to Neri for making it all happen so that we can travel as a family.

Do you ever see any of your kids following in your footsteps one day?

Both kids have shown an interest in sport. Lucy seems to be more of an endurance athlete while Aussie seems to have much more hand eye coordination ( than Lucy) and loves balls! He is a lefty and has a wicked kick. Lucy is right into riding her bike, running, swimming and gymnastics. She did a 1 hour ride/ 20 min run brick session a few days ago. BY CHOICE!

We recently saw you hanging out with the crew from Athletes HoneyMilk in Boulder. What makes AHM such a great product and great company to work with?

It’s healthy, thats a great start, and it tastes AWESOME. I used to drink a mountain of chocolate milk anyway, so this now gives me a legitimate excuse. AHM is a great, progressive company that is pumped about triathlon, and I am honoured that they chose me to support. Plus Lucy now drinks so much of the new Strawberry banana that there is none left for me!

What’s your favorite flavor?

Chocolate, Honey, Strawberry banana, Vanilla and coffee, in that order!

What is the funniest thing you have witnessed/ been a part of on race day?

Sorry, can’t think of anything off the top of my head. Need a bit of inspiration, maybe a third choc honey milk might help!

Recently the newest Ironman event released, IM New York City, sold out in less than 20 minutes. What was your reaction to that historic news and what do you think it says about the sport?

It shows what we all suspected, that the sport is doing well ! It’s great to see and I’m sure it will be an amazing race. Good Luck to anyway who actually scored an entry in those 20 minutes!

Thanks Craig! We wish you a speedy recovery.
